Lately, I have been working on a logo for a former co-worker, Morgan. She is in the middle of setting up her own event planning business here, in Oklahoma City.
I did quite a few sketches that involved champagne glasses and negative space, but as I went along I did not feel I could make it look elegant or upscale enough. The initial sketches were chunky and too heavy visually. I moved to the computer quickly as I feel that you can get some great unexpected results through experimentation. What you see above is a visual representation of where we have gone with the idea. We started with an “M” – she wanted a monogram initially – that quickly became a stylized “M”/butterfly (Morgan’s favorite) and now the idea has evolved into something more traditional like a seal. I love seals, I think they are a great way of branding yourself as an authoritative figure on a subject or in a field of business. Starbucks uses a seal and for many they are an authority when it comes to coffee. Clearly some of the logos above are not up to par, but they were part of the experimentation process.
We currently designing around some the fonts we liked from the beginning. Soon stationary and business card designs will follow. I like where the design is going and will update my portfolio section once we are done.
UPDATE: Here is the final logo.
